Shange affirms the acknowledgement of sensuality, the embodiment and the reclamation of sensuality. Sensuality that enables women of color to be expressive, to heal and to exist without limitation(s). In Audre Lorde\u2019s essay \u201cUses of the Erotic\u201d similar sentiments are expressed as well as the Spring 2014 production of an All Self-Identified Women of Color cast <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vagina Monologues. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These work of arts, though through different mediums \u00a0speak about self-realization and self-actualization through performance art and healing through recognition of harmful acts that demands and encourages women of color self-deprecation. Recognition \u00a0and expression of the sensual in service of oneself and other women who are engaged \u00a0in collectivity work as lorde mentions\u201dFor women, \u00a0this has meant a suppression of the erotic as a considered source of power and information within our lives\u201d (53). Lorde acknowledges the detriments of suppressing the erotic, which I interpret as being the movement and the acknowledgement of one\u2019s (women\u2019s) ability and capability to love and care for themselves unconditionally and wholly. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide\/When The Rainbow is Enuf , <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shange states \u201cno reelin for sheer sensual pleasure\/yes let\u2019s go on &amp; be white\/we\u2019re right in the middle of it\/no use \u00a0of out\/holding onto ourselves\/lets think our way otta feelin\/lets abstract ourselves some families &amp; maybe maybe tonite\/i\u2019ll find a way to make myself come without you\/no fingers or other objects just thot which isnt spiritual evolution cuz its empty &amp; godliness is plenty and is ripe &amp;fertile\u201d(59\/). \u00a0Shange expresses that the joy one gives to oneself is immeasurably and more importantly not inaccessible nor is it impossible. Instead it is attainable and fulfilling and does not require the permission from any outside sources. And in doing, one is able to understand and sit with the power the possess.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Much Like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Colored Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide\/When The Rainbow is Enuf, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0which was a platform that discussed and centralized \u00a0the voices, the needs of women of color explicitly, \u00a0the all self-identified women of color cast of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vagina Monologues <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">highlight the need of collective processes of \u00a0self-actualization and self-realization. It is a public forum and it is a public declaration of wholesomeness of women of color.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taken from the production of the Spring 2014 All Women of Color Cast <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>ALL SELF-IDENTIFIED WOMEN OF COLOR INTRODUCTION<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our vaginas have been best friends,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sassy add-ons,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lecherous side-shows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our vaginas have been quieted to the point of invisibility,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">placed in the corner despite all their stereotypically finger-snapping loudness,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">demoted to off-putting, off-center compliments to other vaginas\u2019 \u201cnormal\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our vaginas,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and my mother\u2019s vagina,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and my mother\u2019s vagina,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and my mother\u2019s vagina,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are battlefields for conquest,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mountain ranges upon which angry flags have violated the soil,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are chained and rechained and rechained,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are harnessed and commodified, and trampled in the dust.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our vaginas have been left without voices to self-determine,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">without platforms to sing our songs and reclaim our traditions,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">without sisters to listen,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to love and to listen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our vaginas need air,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">need room to breathe out all the toxic waste of colonialism,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">need understanding and space and star-filled skies that spring forth from our own imaginations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our vaginas live in a world where all the colors are left for men<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and womanhood has been swallowed in whiteness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And tonight,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tonight,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tonight,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we are brave.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These photos of Amanda, Melissa and myself are reflections of moments when collective processes of self-realization and self-actualization are practiced and embodied<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a
