\"Janet<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s salon focuses on a \u2028new memoir by writer Janet Mock, Redefining Realness: My Path \u2028to Womanhood, Identity, Love &\u2028 So Much More<\/em>, which relates the author\u2019s experience as a young \u2028trans woman of color working\u2028 in mainstream media. In 2012,\u2028 Mock, who served as a Staff Editor for People.com for five years, launched the social media project #GirlsLikeUs which aims to raise \u2028the visibility of trans women. She currently travels the country speaking about her experience of living at \u2028the intersections of identities. <\/p>\n

The evening begins with a reading by \u2028the author, followed by a discussion with scholars, activists, and writers whose work is engaged in the history of media and literary representations of women of color in the U.S., the importance of storytelling in social movements, trans women\u2019s activism, and the role of community and personal relationships in establishing resilience to hostile environments.<\/p>\n

This event is free and open to the public. Venue is wheelchair accessible. Please note that seating for this event is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis – please plan to arrive early! <\/p>\n
