\"MAJOR!<\/p>\n

\u201cMAJOR!\u201d follows the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a 73-year-old Black transgender woman, a veteran of the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion and organizer who has been fighting for the liberation of trans women of color for over 40 years. Miss Major\u2019s personal story and activism for transgender civil rights, from mobile outreach and AIDS prevention to fighting the prison industrial complex, intersects LGBT struggles for justice and equality from the 1960s to today. The screening will include a Q&A with Miss Major and the filmmakers, Annalise Ophelian and StormMiguel Flores. This event\u00a0will also feature the premiere of “The Personal Things,” a short animation about Miss Major, directed by Tourmaline with art by Micah Bazant and animation by Pamela Chavez.<\/p>\n

The venue is accessible to trans and gender nonconforming people and people with disabilities. The film is captioned and there will be ASL interpretation during the introduction and Q&A.<\/p>\n

This event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

About the Filmmakers<\/h3>\n

Annalise Ophelian<\/b>, PsyD is a San Francisco-based clinician, consultant, and trans ally. She interned for two years at New Leaf: Services for Our Community, one of the nation’s leading LGBT community mental health clinics, where she worked with individuals and couples on issues of gender identity, alternative sexualities, and trauma recovery. Dr. Ophelian is currently a post-doctoral fellow in forensic psychology with a private sector agency providing psychological assessment and mental health and substance abuse treatment to recently incarcerated individuals who are on federal probation or state parole.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

StormMiguel Florez <\/b>is, in his own words, \u201c\u2026a Mexican American FtM, genderqueer, singer\/songwriter, performance artist, and live sex show instigator.\u201d <\/span>In his early 20\u2019s, he fronted the pioneering all female rock band Too F.I.N.E. Minds, voted Best Band in Albuquerque by Natural Sound Records in 1994.<\/span> In 2010, StormMiguel released his latest solo project,\u00a0<\/span>Long Lost Sun<\/b>, through his label, Bad Flower Music. The songs reflect on StormMiguel\u2019s life and loves growing up queer, transgender, and assimilated Mexican American.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
