The institutional becomes usual.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', sans-serif;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">What usually happens seems to keep happening without having to be made into official policy and sometimes even despite an official policy. We learn about the institutional (as usual) from those who are trying to transform institutions.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Diversity work, the work of trying to transform institutions by opening them up to populations that have hitherto been excluded, generates data on institutions, snap shots of institutional life from the point of view of those trying not to reproduce that life. In this lecture, Ahmed\u00a0will bring together data from her study of diversity work in universities first presented in\u00a0<i>On Being Included\u00a0<\/i>(2012) and developed in the middle section of\u00a0<i>Living a Feminist Life<\/i>\u00a0(2017) with her current research into \u201cthe uses of use\u201d and complaint. She considers how social justice projects require making usage into a crisis.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>About the Speaker<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"il\">Sara<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Ahmed<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is an independent scholar and feminist writer.\u00a0 She has held academic posts at Lancaster University and Goldsmiths, University of London.
