Staceyann Chin and Alexis Pauline Gumbs ’04 will be joined in conversation with Kaiama L. Glover (Ann Whitney Olin Professor of French and Africana Studies, Barnard College).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Poet, actor, and performing artist Staceyann Chin<\/strong> is the author of the new poetry collection <\/span>Crossfire: A Litany For Survival<\/span><\/i>, the critically acclaimed memoir <\/span>The Other Side of Paradise<\/span><\/i>, co-writer and original performer in the Tony Award\u2013winning Russell Simmons <\/span>Def Poetry Jam <\/span><\/i>on Broadway, and author of the one-woman shows <\/span>Hands Afire<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Unspeakable Things<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Border\/Clash<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>MotherStruck<\/span><\/i>. She has appeared on the <\/span>Oprah Winfrey Show<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>60 Minutes<\/span><\/i>, and her poetry has been featured in the <\/span>New York Times<\/span><\/i> and the <\/span>Washington Post<\/span><\/i>. She proudly identifies as Caribbean, Black, Asian, lesbian, a woman, and a resident of New York City, as well as a Jamaican national.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Anguilla Literary Festival called\u00a0Alexis Pauline Gumbs\u00a0<\/b>“the pride of Anguilla.”\u00a0 Alexis is the author\u00a0of\u00a0Spill: Scenes of Black Feminist Fugitivity, M Archive: After the End of the World,\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0Dub: Finding Ceremony\u00a0<\/i>and co-editor of\u00a0Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/i>Alexis lives in Durham, North Carolina where she stewards the Mobile Homecoming Trust Living Library of Queer Black Brilliance.<\/p>\n
