{"id":7222,"date":"2021-03-15T15:16:42","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T19:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bcrw.barnard.edu\/staging\/2435\/?post_type=videos&#038;p=7222"},"modified":"2026-01-22T10:33:24","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T15:33:24","slug":"pilgrim-and-crow-requiem-screening-and-talk-with-cauleen-smith","status":"publish","type":"videos","link":"https:\/\/bcrw.barnard.edu\/staging\/2435\/video\/pilgrim-and-crow-requiem-screening-and-talk-with-cauleen-smith\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cPilgrim\u201d and \u201cCrow Requiem\u201d: Screening and Talk with Cauleen Smith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.streamtext.net\/player?event=Barnard_3_15_21\">Live transcription is available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cauleen Smith in conversation with Tina Campt<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cauleen Smith\u2019s short films \u201cPilgrim\u201d (2016) and \u201cCrow Requiem\u201d (2015) offer two journeys through Black presence and history, provoking viewers into an experience of time and place that exceeds habitual borders.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201cPilgrim,\u201d viewers experience a live recording of an Alice Coltrane piano performance accompanied by a visual track that documents a pilgrimage across the U.S. taken by Cauleen Smith, tracing historic sites of creativity and generosity that were an inspiration to her: Alice Coltrane\u2019s Sai Anantam Ashram; the Watts Towers; and the Watervliet Shaker Historic District.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCrow Requiem\u201d opens up a poetic narrative space to reckon with anti-Black violence through an homage to crows, commonly known as tricksters and harbingers of death, and less known for their remarkable intelligence and complex social lives.
