TIP: Posting to the Digital Shange Projects site

General information

Log-in to the Digital Shange Projects page with the following url:
http://bcrw.barnard.edu/digitalshange/projects/wp-admin

Your username is the same as your UNI. If you have any trouble logging in, or if you lost your password, email me at sgreene@barnard.edu.

Remember to save your work because WordPress will not automatically save it for you. When working with an unpublished item, hit “Save Draft” often. When working with a published item, hit “Update” often. I would also recommend saving your work in another platform (e.g. Word, Google Docs) by copy/pasting.

Adding your Project to the site

When using the Digital Shange Blog, you used “Posts” to make blog items. For your content to display properly on the Digital Shange Projects site, you should use “Portfolio” instead to make Portfolio items, pictured below.

Making a Portfolio item is very similar to making a Post. The main difference is how your Project will be displayed on the Digital Shange Project site. Also, only Posts have a “Format” option, pictured below (there is no “Format” option in Portfolio).

Below is a screenshot with descriptions on the different areas you can edit as well as add to your Portfolio item.

  1. Toggle between the “Visual Editor” and “Text Editor” here. “Visual Editor” allows you to add basic formatting to your Portfolio item without using HTML code (e.g. bold, italic, insert/edit link). “Text Editor” is for using HTML code. (What is HTML?)
  2. Enter your Portfolio “Tags” and “Categories” here. Tags are for primary themes and will display on the home page of the Digital Shange Projects site. Categories are for secondary themes and will display on your Project page only.
  3. Use “Featured Image” to create a thumbnail for your Project. This thumbnail will display on the home page of the Digital Shange Projects site. There is a tutorial video on using “Featured Image” below.
  4. Use “Add Media” to insert images into your Portfolio item. There are tutorial videos on using “Add Media”  as well as using the “Media Library” below.

Tutorial videos

Keep in mind that the following tutorials are for Posts, and you will be working with Portfolio. Again, many of the features and settings are the same. The main difference is how your project will be displayed on the Digital Shange Project site. Also, only Posts have a “Format” option, pictured above.
