Week 4: Odds and Ends (Update re comment check ins)

NYPL has a pilot project that aggregates various holdings across its institution. It used Ntozake's materials as an example! The student scheduled for this week had a medical emergency and was not able to publish this week’s “Reading Zake” post.  Do your update comments on this post. Please also check the syllabus to be prepared for next week’s discussion.

–SMALL GROUPS: I really need people to show up for the small group meetings, Tiana and I have finite time, we will not be able to keep re-scheduling and they are for your benefit. I also have a very tight calendar for the next two weeks, so making an individual appointment with me will not be possible.

–I’ve created a page for the “Rereading Zake” and movement schedule. We still have spaces for people to lead us in movement if you want to volunteer. (See Schedule at the top right of the blog). Don’t forget that the update comment period is from Monday after the post goes up until Sunday. If you are the author, please use the “Reading Zake” category for your post.

–Bradly shared the handouts on photographing and scanning. You can find them on Courseworks and I will bring copies of the scanning handouts to class next week.

–Please remember to start using the “Read More” widget after the first few sentences of your posts.

–Yemi suggested that we start sharing research tips online. I think this is a great idea, so I’ve created the category “Tips” for short blogposts that suggest resources, ideas, etc. You can find my first tip here. (Your tips don’t have to be that long!)  Michelle might be particularly interested in this one!

(Nadia’s tip is to go to the archive with a buddy or a group. In our small group meeting, Nicole agreed to set up a Facebook page so that people can let each other know when they plan to visit the Schomburg or the Barnard archive.)

BE AN LP INTERN
We are now seeking a program intern for Spring 2016! The Program Intern will support the planning and implementation of The LP’s programs such as Create Change and our Community Arts Education initiative. This internship includes a stipend of $1,600 and college credit can also be arranged. Interns should be available 12-15 hours/week from February to May.

— I’ve worked out a system for me or Tiana to check things out of the Barnard archive when it comes time for you to create your images.  Please keep careful track of the location of items in which you interested. Details in class.

–Finally, if you are interested in questions of intellectual property and copyright, particularly as it pertains to entertainment and digital media, the law firm of BakerHostetler has started a very informative blog.
