The Well Told Story

MUJI HUT

This project is the brainchild of the Japanese lifestyle brand/chain, Muji. MUJI HUT is not just a product but a lifestyle. The Muji Hut is a tiny home designed and built around concepts of sustainability and simplicity.

I chose the MUJI HUT site because it is comprehensive in its design and effective at its goal to entice people to consider a world that exists in opposition to Late Capitalism and towards sustainability. Additionally, there are no details about the selling / purchase of the hut, so I feel okay posting this here!

The site, itself, is calming both visually and sonically. The experience is all-encompassing. It is about design, possibility, and envisioning new futures through the activities of the everyday — something I think very pertinent to our study of Ntozake Shange.

WOW. This site captures the experience they want the Muji Hut to create/invite pretty phenomenally. I have a history of disliking this (mostly because the other music tends to be loud and disruptive, IMHO), but I am curious how your generation feels about sounds being activated the moment they enter a site. You are very astute in pointing out how MUJI negotiates a balance between marketing a lifestyle brand and suggesting an anti-capitalist mode of being.
