Join Kweli for the third annual Color of Children’s Literature Conference, a conference for Indigenous and People of Color writers and illustrators to learn and connect with others in the industry. This year’s conference will honor the legacy of Walter Dean Myers, an award-winning Black writer of children’s and young adult literature.

On Friday, April 3, there will be four Master Classes: Ruthless Revision, Writing Home, The Woven Verse: How to Craft a Novel in Verse, and Collage. These workshops are limited to 20-25 students.

On Saturday, April 4, the conference will welcome writers Debbie Reese, Jean Mendoza, Linda Sue Park, Vanessa Brantley-Newton, Kacen Callender, Roshani Chokshi, Michaela Goade, Raul the Third, Nikki Grimes, Adib Khorram, Minh Le, Nilah Bagruder, Aida Salazar, Traci Sorell, Duncan Tonatiuh, Ibi Zoboi, and others for keynote lectures, panels, and workshops. Sessions will be organized into four separate tracks: a Publishing Track, a Novel Track, an Illustrated Books & Nonfiction Track and our Intensives Track. Panels and workshops will cover topics from the craft to the business of writing. Top editors, agents, and authors will discuss crucial steps to help launch a writer’s career and offer carefully considered manuscript critiques and portfolio reviews. Critiques will run concurrently with panels, and books will be available for sale and signing.

This conference is organized by Kweli, an online magazine whose mission is to nurture emerging writers of color.
